<<One problem the Israeli-Palestinians have is symmetry. If the one is going to have a "civil war" so will the other. They can have 'em out and out, down and dirty, or low key. Either way, their respective trouble makers will have to be taken off the board
The leadership of neither relish the prospect but outside forces are pushing them in that direction. (of peace)>>>
Nice summary
The situation is equivalent to putting two men who hate each other on 40 acres to live, and letting them fight it out as to who gets what part. Each has outside support in case they are losing an argument, and advice from two separate relgious groups telling them what they are allowed to do, or should do.
If both support groups back off and stop helping, one of the two (men, countries) will die and that is Palestine. .
While the outside world watches, the US arms Israel but does not permit major offensive action, while the Arab world sneakily arms unknown factions of Palestine so no one can draw a proper bead on the real villians there.
Arafat is an outright down and dirty forked tongue liar , while Israel has had many different leaders and positions which should have permitted peace.
The only solution for peace is to have an outside force interfere and then support the decisions made, which apparently the Oslo Accord failed to do.
Th Western world wants trade with Arabic( and all) nations, and the Arabic or Eastern world needs Western food and technology or else many who managed to survive starvation and lack of Western medicines would still be riding camels today.
But that basic fact is unrecognized by the East because of the downtrodden miserable ( by our standards) lives of people in the area and a lack of fair news reporting. They think our wealth and good living is the result of stealing something (from them) , instead of our hard work. Because the only chance most see or have for progress in their own country is to steal something or have it handed to them.
Leaders in the region at this time have a lot more respect for the US ( they respect warriors) than in the past
and perhaps can be convinced to join an East plus West coalition willing to decide the borders and tell those
two *(&%^%$ peoples how to behave.
Is peace something "catching", where if the Palestinians were forced into six months of peace they would want more peace? It would be so different, such a change, not to be collecting and using bombs and guns, having to work for a living in a boring job instead of blowing up people ( and thus supposedly gaining respect ). .
I doubt it .... Let me know how it all turns out, as I will be reading the Thread here.
