What is driving research into fusion isn't the price of oil. Hybrid technology is being driven by environmental and political concerns more than the price of oil. As I've said several times oil is cheap and there is too much of it. Which is not anything like what you think I said. Put enough people into hybrids in the next ten years and stagnating demand runs head on to a supply glut. But that's OK for the oil producing countries because there is lots of demand at lower prices.
