If your argument were true, then Hinckley has a special connection with Jody Foster that must be recognized. After all, he obsesses over her, so that must mean he has some special relationship that must be acknowledged, no? In this reductio ad absurdum, the American attachment to the Constitution must also be considered meaningless. After all, it's only our feelings and our self-definition that are involved, right? Nothing that CB need acknowledge. It is equally absurd to throw out the Jewish definition of themselves as a people with a 4000 year history and a strong attachment all that time to the land of Israel.
