heard today the ugly truth behind my layoff at firm
had a 90-minute extremely open and friendly talk with my manager
actually, nobody manages me, and that is part of my problem

today he opened up, realizing my demise is written in stone
we talked about the economy, our businesses, workers, internal accounting, sacred cows, and some sabotage

but what caught my ear was a $3 million dropped ball
it seems two VP's were warned by a large client 18 months ago about some dissatisfaction of my firm's handling of the ongoing account
these two VP's are sharp guys, but too much responsibility to handle
they said "it is fine, the client will back off"

6 months ago, the same client complained again
we are talking about a very big client
numerous people worked on their account
the two VP's again said "they will quiet down in time"

last winter, the giant client pulled the account
they decided to build their own database system internally
we lost a $3 million account
our firm had to react, cut costs, lower headcount

I was let go
the VP's are entrenched, the brethren, good people
but they made a mistake
they are seasoned veterans over 10 years each
one might be heir apparent to CEO post
regardless, I must go
my cost is significant, mostly overhead, an easy call

I was surprised at the unusual candor by my manager
he is a great guy, a sharp fellow, I like him very much, I always have
he makes tough decisions all the time, great instincts
he never utters an ugly or needlessly harmful word

here is the strangest part of my job
I was hired in May2001, to report to a guy named Patrick
when I arrived 10 days later, Patrick was gone
I was shoved onto my manager's lap, with me an unknown person
he hadnt even met me
we quickly became acquainted
there was no plan for my job, never was

this employment has been one massive fuchup
but this firm had been doing remarkably well
in this tough environment, clients dont put up with shit
today I also heard about deep accounting inequities
some groups generate business for other groups
some groups are extremely profitable
internal accounting does not address either issue well
if not resolved, some bigtime problems coming

also heard about some abandonment by a former account manager
he left the firm recently, leaving a mess behind
he had sandbagged my last review, with some massively underhanded lousy ass deception
he was no "straight shooter" as we like to say
he bailed out before chaos hit in a massive shitstorm
some deep data integrity problems
much more to the story, but I was pulled from that account
now my manager must attempt to hold it all together
that is a $350k ongoing annual account

they care about helping me along
they allow me to spend half my time looking for a job
they allow me to use the telephone long distance
but they expect me to make some decent continued progress, and to assist in certain transitions

I will somehow get by, maybe not really
I hope and pray that I thrive
my own firm wants to hire me back for at least $1000 per month
it adds up
if I could find 6-10 more like them, I would be swimming in it
a launched website making at least that sum would be peachy
but my fave little miner is struggling to regain the upper hand in drilling
they might turn it around

what irony!!!
the exact troubles on corporate layoffs I anticipated, they hit me
three days after my own investment headed south bigtime
damn damn damn
I intend to laugh last, and laugh hard
