Yes i supported invasion of Afghanistan, it was righteous in that it was hot pursuit of criminals, and it was a smart thing to do because the risks/costs were outweighed by the benefits .... can't recall the polls but didn't most canucks see it that way? ... we had been attacked, it wasn't a them against them thing, it was us and them, the civilised world attacked by criminals ... and therein lies one quibble i have on it - we shouldn't call it 'war' because that lends terrorism a dignity it does not merit, it is crime .... each of its individual crimes is well covered by the Criminal Code, so we don't need to elevate its status in dealing with it, nor execute the pursuit with any less vigour, we simply have the mounties do their job .... of course they must have access to military assets, and likely overseas operations will be directed entirely by the war office because they presumably have the expertise, but i think overall we should have the RCMP in at least nominal charge of terrorism, as figurehead if nothing else, with a staff sergeant from Trois Rivieres making most public announcements on the matter, putting bin Laden in his rightful place, just a little down the alphabetical order from Paul Bernardo
Afghanistan is not over, we have incurred a responsibility there, and it is a smart thing to help the place develop intelligently, so we should definitely be putting out serious effort there .... we have 1800 men going back in august, on rotation to relieve the germans, doesn't sound like enough to me, maybe enough troops but it seems like we could supply engineering or admin assistance or something .... foresters - we are a nation of forestry and all fotos of the place suggest that they could use a tree here and there
Iraq was quite distinct from this, in a number of ways, both justifications and on the cost/benefit scale, for reasons discussed amply above .... still i would have been open to a cooperative effort there, and most canucks could have been convinced imho, but not with the yer with us or agin us line, that is not going to work ever .... remember we were watching the french get demonised for reluctance to appease this, well we all love to hate the french sure, but there was a fresh lesson to learn here, in over the top petulance from quite high up in the New World Order ..... more than a few veiled threats thrown around, and some not so veiled ones, this was all instructive, to say the least
Iran is quite another thing again .... mad mullahs for sure, and no one will miss them when they're gone, still is that sufficient cause for invasion when they haven't set a foot on non-persian lands since counter attacking Hussein? .... and on cost/benefit, look at topography, military capability, population - whole different animal .... anyway look at their young folk out in the street, maybe best to just leave things alone for now, refrain from screwing up natural cycles, remember how college kids took down Nixon in the end, that hippy chick who put the daisy in the guardsman's rifle barrel, she did what ten thousands tanks could not
'mindless anti-Americanism' - i know what you're doing in misusing the appellation of the continent, just trying to make me type extra, well it won't work this morning, instead we'll stick with the 'mindless' .... Jacob phrased well yesterday a maxim that says basically, 'governments must be questioned and never trusted' .... this applies to all government everywhere, on any level, whether we get to 'elect' them or not - the harder we question them the better they are likely to develop ....you will certainly see this as applied to the mad mullahs eh, well now apply it to the de facto rule of the planet by denizens of the backrooms of a single national capital - this is our highest current level of government as surely as was the tsar the highest level to Tolstoy's serfs, and equally as representative too, because neither we nor the serfs got to vote for/against them ..... and, they seem to have roughly the same hearing abilities, whether through innate reluctance or organic defect or both remains to be seen, but it is our duty as their thoughtful subjects to assist them in all manner possible
So, an international parliament of democracies could help them considerably with their hearing problem .... we give them a nice chair, comfortable yet a bit hard, with a straight back, because we don't want them nodding off, do we ... although if that appeared imminent we could just switch to french and bring out the rant impulse .... but this stands a chance of working, just as did the ancient tribal council assist the chief with his hearing problem, and anyway what else can we do, it's either take orders or build a structure that fosters cooperation |
