The point of my comments was that Krauthammer and Shelby don't wish to take on the serious research about the effects of AA. Here's the best book. amazon.com It's The Shape of the River by William Bowen and Derek Bok. The failure to discuss the literature is not only a serious failure. Makes their columns look as if they are only political. They fail to address the serious policy questions. Just my guys don't like it, so I'll write a skin blistering denunciation.
