The problem with defending real estate will be jobs -- having one at all, or for some people, having to take a huge pay cut to compete with people from India. Zero interest won't help when it's financially untenable to purchase a home. I also think that when the utopian expectations evaporate, many of the buyers who only bought because they thought prices would go up and therefore justified the risk will decide to opt out of the buying scene and re-enter the rental scene where you are far more mobile (and thus better able to accommodate migrating from one crappy job to another). And by golly, the bubble will stop inflating at this time, barring the Fed perhaps being successful at igniting hyper price inflation.
