Yes, unfortunately, many conservatives are firmly against any sort of international 'sharing' of power. I think they believe that we should not diffuse our power by ceding any control.

I read somewhere (here?) someone pointed out that many conservatives (and possibly many Americans) equate 'globalization' with 'Americanization'. We need to understand that the greatest victories in Democracy have come about when an oppressed nation throws off the shackles of fascism, communism, etc in favor of Democracy. When we try to impose our brand, it rarely seems to stick. I guess we need Marshall and Truman to make that model work again.
