We've always done our own, not so much for the money but my husband is something of a perfectionist. It's reasonably easy for us because my husband is in construction. That doesn't mean he does all the repairs, what it means is he has great tools for me to use when I do them. -ggg-

Just recently a good friend announced to me at dinner that she was having 20 some windows replaced in her house. She told me what the cost of the contract was and my husband kicked me hard under the table which means he was sure I was going to tell them just how ridiculous the price was. Later we had a bit of a spat about it because I thought that being a good friend means telling someone when you think they are getting taken to the cleaners and he thinks being a good friend is not making people feel bad when they have to pay a lot to have someone else do what they don't know how to do themselves.

My thinking is that almost anyone can get wholesale prices ordering that many windows and the window contractor is going to get some cheap labor to do the job anyway, why not order the windows yourself and hire your own convicted felons? Its not brain surgery. Needless to say, I let my husband win that argument. They'll never know they are paying three times what its worth, they can go on blissfully unaware of the huge markup.
