Kerry took three bullets and fought hard on the Mekong. His government didn't protect him. His government sent them up on an impossible mission where they had to attack and be shot at but never were allowd to take territory.

He and his crews were on their own up there except for occasional air support. See APOCALYPSE NOW and you'll understand. Same deal, just no Marlon Brando.
