If it were the thirties

The UK politicians were not dumb enough to pre-empt a war that we could have easily lost several times over. The population in both our countries (UK & USA) were essentially pacifist. Very much like today.

The population was essentially "on board" when that war was eventually fought.

If it were the thirties....

As de Tocqueville pointed out, L'histoire est une galerie de tableaux où il y a peu d'originaux et beaucoup de copies.

Well, during the 1930's, that's exactly what some people were saying, and more. People will talk, you know. There's no stopping them.

Some of the most monumentally stupid comments I've ever read in the historial record were spoken at Senatorial hearings and Congressional hearings on "what went wrong," most of them out of the mouths of actual Senators and Representatives. As you know, I am interested in the history of the Great Depression. Members of Congress know about as much about economics as they know about foreign events. Particularly pernicious cases of "male answer syndrome," if you ask me.

Hi Neocon; Re: "If it were the thirties, we would have had an earful on the dubious numbers of Mr. Churchill, the wisdom of Neville Chameberlain, and the stupidity of triggering a war to save Poland."

Cool that you don't have a clue what year it is.
