People don't remember Wallace, because he is now an embarrassment to the Democratic Party. Democrats choose not remember the man who was Vice President of the United States, for most of the Second World War. They want to pretend that the Democratic Party didn't have members of the Communist Party within its ranks, in positions of great responsibility, spying for the Soviet Union. In truth, Henry Wallace is probably closer now to where the Democratic Party's mainstream now is, not JFK or Truman.

Yes, Strom Thurmond did become a Republican. And as the Republicans became stronger in the South, the conditions of southern African Americans improved. Now the most segregated large cities in America are places like Chicago, Detroit, New York and Milwaukee. The least segregated cites in the United States are mostly in Republican strongholds like the South and conservative counties in Southern California like San Diego and Orange County. A few weeks ago, 60 minutes did a story about middle class African Americans moving from the North to the South: saying how much they like living in the South now. That things are so much better...The story didn't mention, that the Republican Party now dominates much if not most Southern Politics.

San Bernadino/Riverside voted for George Bush in 2000, Oakland voted for Gore. Guess which has the greatest income disparity between blacks and whites in the country, and which has the least?
