LOL! Your Dad seemed to be quite a "creative" cook....<g> My Dad's contribution to 'creative' was taking a flat pie pan full of cold cream of wheat, slicing it into inch strips, frying it (probably in butter), *then* putting maple syrup all over the steaming mess....

He really liked it...I NEVER could figure out why....

Did try Grandma's sandwich filling, but I think it was the homemade bread that made the difference....Fluffy white grocery bought stuff didn't seem to cut it.

I looked up Basalt...No wonder you loved it....SKI country, for sure!

Did you ever go on the Million Dollar Highway? Here's some info for all in case they've not heard of it. Notice the write up says "not to worry" quite a few times....Shoot, I was only a child when we went over it so often, and I worried all the time....It was so beautiful, if I looked straight out the windows....It was looking down that made my stomach sick. Mom used to travel with 12 towels, mostly for me...way before the paper towel era. My sisters didn't seem to be bothered as much as I was.... Thank goodness, I'm sure my Mom and Dad said many times!
