Maybe the poster was mixing up the states with the feds. I recall a story from about 4-5 years ago that said the state of Connecticut was selling driver's license info to marketing groups. The newspaper account mentioned a handful of other states were doing it as well. Not positive, but I believe Connecticut subsequently cut the practice out after the story appeared and the expected backlash occurred.
