Guantánamo is a wound fresh, salted daily, nothing 'old' about it, it is a right here right now today thing ... a few decades or a few dozens decades after the US comes to its senses and does the right thing, it will become 'old', until then it is quite front and centre in the symbolism of US treatment of latinos, every day as the sun rises on that occupation there is pointed up yet again the hypocrisy of the great Cradle of Liberty

Come and see the violence inherent in the system!
Bloody peasants!

[pardon me, must have been a flashback to the only polysci lecture i sat through]

'But why does Castro have to imprison, torture and kill everybody who disagrees with him?'

Because he's a repressive old dickhead of a dictator, would be my guess ... but maybe i'm not the one to ask, it would be better to visit the island and ask a few dozens of residents, just why they are not permitted on this internet [which serves as measure of freedom of expression? - quick to gauge eh, if they're typing at you they're free, if they're not they're not?] .... meantime maybe we could consult an eloquent who once made this impassioned demand for freedom of expression -

'I ask that my right to express myself be respected without restraint. Otherwise, even the merest semblance of justice cannot be maintained, and the final episode of this trial would be, more than all the others, one of ignominy and cowardice.' - #reply-18932644

.. US nationals who make demented policy and cubanos who make demented policy are for me all in one class of beings - they are all dickheads without whom we are better off .... no matter that each of them wants you to join their 'side' against the other, that is just part of what makes them dickheads .... every US administration since McKinley has, to the extent that they continue to occupy Guantánamo, been dickheads, and Castro has, to the extent he prohibits freedom of expression, been in the very same class of hypocritical anti-human dickheads ... they are all one, and they are not with us, they are agin us
