>Come on, you know the answer. Capitalism, democracy, free markets, free trade, free exchange of ideas.

Freedom works. The alternatives limp along, if honestly tried, and collapse if the participants don't have their hearts in it. >

What about India and China? India has freedom, capitalism, democracy, free exchange of ideas. China is doing much better economically.

Maybe the key is just (fair) trade and nothing else. Perhaps, countries like East Germany, Cuba (last 40 years) and Iraq (last 12 years) were not given much opportunities to trade with richer countries.

>>Freedom works. << but >>The sad thing is that the peoples of the earth can have food, shelter, medical care and legal representation but their rulers - or struggles between would-be rulers - make it impossible.<< Well, tough... So what's the way out of it? Can we have some brainstorming on it?

I dont like the way the word "freedom" has been shrunk to mean "Come on, you know the answer. Capitalism, democracy, free markets, free trade, free exchange of ideas". Tacked on to freedom fries... McDonaldized freedom (sigh).

So back to >>Freedom works<<: wish it works in Iraq - even if I get accused of being a polyannish daydreamer.
