Perhaps, it is being kept US show because potential peace keepers are reluctant to be drawn into a quagmire.. Specially since US is not willing to involve UN.. May be they are thinking, US and UK got into this, let them dig out of it..

A year from now, you are going to be saying exactly what Bilow is saying today. You will feel betrayed, and you will be very angry. It might take 2 or 3 years. But it's inevitable.

Betrayed? Because we overthrew Saddam, or because someone upstairs failed to understand how to build a society?

I think Bremer was a good choice for leading this effort. He has the mindset that he's there to "work himself out of a job" by creating some form of governmental stability in Iraq.

But apparently he believes that the Iraqis need to get together and create a constitution before electing their leaders. It would be foolish to elect national leaders who merely wish to use the electoral system to establish their own non-democratic powerbase.

But I don't believe a constitution is necessary to elect local leaders. Local leaders need to be elected, because they will eventually form the delegates to an Iraqi constitutional convention.

I'm a firm believer in "all politics is local".. and we need to create political and economic order at a local level.. And this requires finding someone who can provide an alternative address for where the "buck stops". That address must be Iraqi, not US.
