Anyone in the political world who's honest will admit this and agree. It's also well-known in Texas. When Davis was strong and popular, Bushies feared him in 2004. He was the one potential candidate they feared the most because he's moderate, has a huge financial base and was a war hero (Bronze Star). Once Davis was weakened, the energy lobby abd Bushies ganged up on him like pirahnas. They smelled blood and they went into a frenzy. Hurting California in the process. In fact the Bushie energy forces have done more harm to California than ten Grey Davises could have done. Davis is a moderate but opposes over-development, offshore drilling and old growth timber cutting. These three lobbies are funding the recall drive; developers, energy/oilmen and timber cutters, plus some far right-wing idealogues. It's a stinky, greedy crew. Moderate Republicans are not supporitng the recall, except maybe Arnold, if his ego is dashed by TERMINATOR 3 returns and he needs a new ego boost. Clinton may have done little to stop the energy crisis, but he was hoodwinked too. He went to the Petroleum Institute andothers and they told him there was a short supply and the crisis was market-driven. They lied. Clinton proposed releasing oil from the Strategic reserve but the energy cartel told him that wouldn't do any good because refineries were at 99% capacity. Another big lie. Some refineries were actually shut down on purpose to drive up prices. All in all, a stinky, dirty ripoff. If the Dems controlled congress, there would be a lot of Texans facing indictments now, perhaps including Cheney.
