Maureen does seem to be engaging in a higher level of name calling lately. It does seem to me that with the emergence of the almost immediate response by conservatives for every immature and insulting comment made by pundits like her, the reply consists of more creative disparagement.

Could this possibly be a change in the rules of engagement, brought on by the Internet and the instantaneous ability to communicate? Rules that more and more people are demanding of those who wish to argue?

I know I refuse to participate in conversation with someone if the topic is full of smarmy accusations based on nothing but bias and innuendo. I will rapidly move on to another conversation with individuals who can teach me something or convince me of something without resorting to insults.

Maureen Dowd is making a reputation for herself as the most entertaining smarm peddler around....but even that gets very old. And like most people, I don't have time for smarm. It is unproductive, negative, insulting for everyone involved and always based on opinion rather than fact.

Dowd is no different than anyone else with an opinion.....hers are just nastier than most, and that negates any speck of relevance there may have been to them in the first place.
