Right. So what, exactly, makes you think Iraq will go the way of Japan, instead of the way of Lebanon or the West Bank? The Japanese path seems somewhat contrary to the locally popular Bernard Lewis / "Arab Mind" line of social analysis, and the PNAC people are alleged to be tight with Lewis. If there was any indication that Rummy bore some resemblance to George Marshal, I might give the analogy some credence. The "stuff happens" postwar looting analysis pretty much blows that comparison away, though.
