recognize the entity as a legal relationship.


Marriage is a legal status. It requires getting a marriage license (except in those states that allow common law marriages, which ours doesn't) and registering the marriage with the State.

Gay and lesbian couples are not permitted to obtain a marriage license in this state, and I think in every other state. Therefore, they cannot marry. Period.

They can call themselves whatever they want to, as long as they aren't doing so for fraudulent purposes. But calling yourself something and being that are two very different things.
