An exit strategy is supposed to be known before you enter.
That is the whole idea. Ask the military experts, Powell especially.

Objective
Strategy
Tactics

1. Our "stated"objective was to remove WMDs or Regime change.
2. Our strategy was to get a coalition of the willing to
invade Iraq to get rid of WMDs and Saddam
3. Our tactics were shock and awe, the road to bagdad, removal of Republican guard, war, etc.
The "implied" exit strategy was that when they threw all those flowers at our tanks after we disarmed and removed Saddam the Iraqi people VOTe in a new government.

See the problem?
We don't have an exit strategy because we still have not come to terms with what the heck the objective was!

And round and round we go.

And this Objective, Strategy Tactics thing has been in the military consciousness since man first raised a club at an enemy.

It's the same template used by Marketers. Karl Rove is the absolute Master. Others don't even know what he's doing.

If Rove were in charge of DOD Wolfawitz would relegated to the mess hall.

By the way,
I caught Rumsfeld on the Pentagon Briefing today. WOW. Too bad it won't make the MASS media. He had so many unknowables I was starting to feel sorry for him. (NOT)
He Didn't know how many troops from other countries were coming on board, how many countries were going to deploy assistance, how many were troops were recycles. And I forget the reason the UN and NATO were not on board yet.He regretted he had not looked up the definition of Quagmire and Guerilla warfare since the press read it to him from their Webster's.

Cheeze he made Howard Dean look like an expert. But I guess you won't see any follow up on this from Russert of Faux News.Sorry to say that this is starting to unwind.
Whether it reaches the level of the American consciousness is yet to be determined.

Most of all, I am dismayed by the lack of proportionality between the challenges directed at this Administration and past Administrations. Our government needs to be challenged.

Democracy means being accountable to the citizens, not invasion of a 5th tier country.
