Bilow - Give them time. The Iraqis will eventually get the kill rate up to 3 per day, and this will equal our fatality rate in Vietnam. What will you call it then.

We are at 4 today ...

US forces under fire Iraq channel4.com

There have been a series of attacks against American occupying forces in Iraq this morning resulting in at least four American deaths.

This follows the deaths of at least 10 Iraqi civilians in the last 24 hours.

A Channel 4 News team happened to be in the area just minutes after an ambush in Baghdad and filmed exclusive pictures.

A US military convoy was snaking slowly through the al Mostansiriya district -- the university area -- of Baghdad.

At least one vehicle took a direct hit from a rocket propelled grenade.

An eyewitness, Salah Mahdi, described seeing two badly injured American soldiers and said their Iraqi translator was killed outright.

Further proof that the American occupying soldiers safety is not guaranteed anywhere where they appear in public in Iraq.

Millions of Iraqis may detest Saddam -- but they dislike their invaders too and support for the Iraqi resistance -- both passive and active -- is extensive.

At Abu Graigh this morning another American convoy was attacked -- this is just five miles to the west of the capital and there is no word as yet on any casualties.

In what appears to be a third attack on US forces in the Baghdad area -- vehicles were hit by a grenade ambush this morning near Yussifiyeh - ten miles southwest ofthe city centre.

Overnight in Falluja there was a large explosion at a mosque, killing at least six Iraqis - most of them believed to be Moslem clerics.

Local people in the town -- 35 miles from Baghdad -- say it was a US air-strike -- the Americans believe that explosives stored at the mosque caused the blast.

This will increase tensions in Falluja – they are already running high since American soldiers shot dead 20 unarmed civilians in the town in April.

One hundred and fifty miles northwest of Baghdad -- at Hadithah -- an explosion at an arms dump left several civilians badly injured and at least three people dead.

They'd entered the dump to loot it for material to sell or use as fuel -- it's believed a spark or cigarette caused the explosions.

Eye witnesses say several US soldiers were badly injured and an Iraqi killed Tuesday when unknown assailants attacked their military convoy as it made its way through the Al-Mostansiriya district of Baghdad.

At least one US vehicle in the convoy was hit by a rocket propelled grenade in the attack and caught fire.

An Iraqi truck driving behind the convoy also caught fire.

The morning patrol was travelling through the city's university district when the attack took place.

The US military has so far not issued any details of the attack.

Passers by say at least two US soldiers inside the vehicle were badly injured.
