[end.] --- (my reply) Dear Teddy, Been there, done that (or) was it the other way around? a.k.a. a short storyMessage 17236392 It was a dark and doom and gloomy midday when the rain having stopped echoed the early street lights off the cold wet sidewalk ... ... as i roamed the mental health nooks and crannies of the Boston area, it is sometimes difficult to walk into a room of a mental illness patient and of psychiatrists and determine without looking at the name tags or labels, which are those of sickness, and which are the doctors. . We all heard that Catch-22 saying that a crazy person is unaware of their own crazy and don't understand why other people seem to act quite strange towards them, as if they are crazy or something. . Yes, but there is another characterization i spoke about above in that sometimes the person with the mental illness does not appear to be crazy after their realization that others treat them different in ways that does not make sense to them, so they actually appear to be doing the doctor trade onto the real doctor. . This short true story is too good not to share. . This young lady just joined the staff of other psychiatrists, and on the first day a nurse informed her of a meeting of the other five doctors at 2 p.m. room #17. She knew that the doctor in charge of them all was quite a nasty and difficult and extra blunt etc etc man so she knew that she had to keep her cool and appear in control. What she did not realize that this doctor had an off the wall dry type of humor where those around him did not know to laugh or cry or run away, at times. . So she entered the room and saw a mean looking man at the head of a long table, and four other people sitting in a rigid and straight cold manner. She sat down and waited for a signal to speak and introduce herself. About 3 minutes went by and no one spoke or moved, then the head man raised his hand and upon lowering it the other 4 person started singing... "They're coming to take us away, ha ha, coming to take us away." over and over and over until the nurse opened the door and spoke to the new young lady doctor that the meeting has been changed to room #21 and the other doctors were waiting for her. . The nurse left and before she could stand up to leave the head man told her that it was just a joke and we are the doctors just getting you to loosen up a little. Or not, or yes, or how to tell she wondered. . The "head man a.k.a. in charge" told her to go to room 21 and if no one is there to return back here rather than track down the nurse. . She left and quickly returned saying the room is empty. . She sat down and for the next 10 minutes she spoke to all the persons in the room using only general everyday converstaion and she was not able to tell if they were patients, or them doctors for real. . The four started singing again "They're coming to take us away, ha ha, coming to take us away." over and over and over until she stood up and left the room and cried her eyes out. . Tough business that mental health profession, and for those who wish to venture there be warned that unless you deal with cheese & whining mainstream Americans, that once you get into close mental contact with the real deal, then who is who sometimes causes even them doctors to wonder, even about themselves if they can not travel and return into-from chaos.
