SB, Re:"seems ubs whalburg doesn't think cdma will crack 20% of handsets anytime soon"<<

Qualcomm, along with most of the informed here, consider WCDMA to be a part of the CDMA family. Qualcomm's future addressable market expands considerably as the wide world of wireless moves to 3G. Tony at the Spring conference stated words to the effect that CDMA will move from 13% of the world's current subscribers to close to 100% in time.

Don't fall for the GSMA line that WCDMA is GSM and automatically exclude it from Qualcomm's new markets.

Skeeter, W-CDMA is as much CDMA as CDMA2000 is CDMA. QUALCOMM collects the same % royalty off both [more from W-CDMA because the devices are more expensive] and sells ASICs for both.

W-CDMA is very good for QUALCOMM. It's difficult to do, which means the talented people at QUALCOMM have an advantage.
