I took my first week of not smoking as an opportunity to tell people what I really thought of them. All the ways their little quirks and tics had been annoying me all this time. You know, the things we are usually too polite to bring up. It felt liberating, but I didn't ingratiate myself too well. I also began growing a beard the day I quit smoking. Somehow the psychological effect of gaining a beard rather than losing the pleasure of smoking was helpful...
