Hi Rascal; Re: "informedpolitepatriot.com

Well, I'm in full "civil disobedience" mode.

The emotional reason is that it's satisfying.

The logical reason is that I think it needs to be made very clear that this outrage will not be allowed to blow up into something significant, or even to fester on a back burner like Israel's ongoing occupation fiasco.

I believe that there are a lot of neocons who believe that this really is a fight to the finish with the Moslem world, and that we will eventually have to garrison the whole thing, all 2 billion (or whatever it is) of them. These people need to be made to realize that their dreams of such a conflict are hopeless, and that instead they will have the rug yanked from under them just like happened in Vietnam.

It is impossible to convince them that the war should not, or need not, be fought. What must be done instead is to convince them that the fight is hopeless. It is only then that they will consider the possibility that there is another way out.

The situation is quite similar to the Israeli / Palestinian situation. Neither side wants peace per se. What they are searching for instead is victory. So the conflict goes on. (See #reply-17596453 for more on this line.)

Similarly with the neocons. They do not want a peaceful end to the war on Terror. They want a victory (in the sense of the enemy submitting to their will). It is only when they understand that victory is impossible, that they will realize that there is another path, and that path is one with which this country has repeatedly been triumphant.

Privately, they will tell you that the WTC attack was the best thing that could have happened to this country because it galvanized public opinion in favor of the war on Moslems (and in favor of Republican candidates). Until they see the hopelessness of their cause, their fear / greed will drive them like lemmings into a war that we cannot win.

Arguing with them from the point of view of a left winger (i.e. Humanity, liberty, equality and brotherhood) is hopeless. They do not think like that. They must be argued with from the point of view of a right winger (i.e. God, duty, honor and country).

They must see that their arguments are hopeless at convincing even the rest of the right wing, then it will dawn on them that their cause is politically hopeless.
