I love it when self-proclaimed political gurus attempt to discuss economics and finance.

I think the Fed would be wise to adopt a new leading indicator based on your input. We could call it the TTFi,... tractor trailer flow index.

Reagan/Bush took the necessary steps? And what were those? Huge record deficits? Trickle down BS? An economic policy that resulted in recession when Bush Sr was ignobly pushed out the door? Yes, as I remember, Bush Sr LOST because of his 'booming economy'.

Revisionists seem to be running rampant on the right.

As far as Bush, his inability to reverse the slide in the economy will be his biggest millstone. Much of economic activity is based on confidence, and there is a sore lack of that in Bush's plan (which is why he's changed economic teams, to little avail so far).

The Bush recessions are the ugly bookends to Clinton's path of prosperity for all Americans. This country would be much better off with more interns and less premptive strikes.

Anne, Clinton inherited a LOUSY economy. The only good part was that Bush Sr. had JUST BEGUN to pay off some of the reagan deficits by RAISING taxes. Which ironically the conservatives hated him for. Otherwise it was an age of malaise. Sort of like now with GW.
