croc,

Thanks! Your posts are a delight to read. Compared to large numbers of U.S. based SIers you come across as sane. :)

I'll have to take a peek at "22 Minutes". I find the "Canadian Air Farce" to be vastly better than U.S. comedy.

The problem with comedians in the U.S. is that in order to succeed you have be obsequious to the GHP. Leno bends over backwards to avoid any negativity about Bush. Letterman is strictly agnostic, and now we have the most cynical of comics, Dennis Miller, turning himself into a total whore for the Bushies.

Yep. Boundary Waters/Quetico, and did the entire Churchill River system over a month once. Saw a few moose and bears, but no crocodiles <g>.

If your description of Canadians is representative, sounds about like what we ought to be doing.

The right wing here is truly nuts, and not afraid to apply their fascist tendencies when they take over all branches of the government, as they unfortunately have now. They've gotten clever and cynical enough to cloak it in god, country, and motherhood, and there are plenty of dupes here who fall for it completely. The media has become more and more complicit, which is the real danger, given the lack of independent critical thought in the populace. Television news and political shows are atrocious - I think. I've pretty much stopped watching that nonsense, but whenever I catch it, I'm appalled.

Too bad that tempered political awareness isn't one of your more popular exports down here.

cheers.
