China seeks to ease pressure for revaluation
By James Kynge in Beijing

China is looking at ways to relieve pressure for the revaluation of the renminbi, as a prelude to adjusting the 10-year-old system that effectively pegs the currency to the US dollar, according to officials and academics.

Such considerations have become more urgent recently as a rapid inflow of "hot money" has strained the central bank's ability to dictate monetary policy. Officials said the central bank had recently been forced to buy an average of $600m dollars a day to steady the exchange rate.
