Sure you would, as would most liberals -- McCain is very close to being a liberal Democrat. But the nation is sick and tired of liberalism and its destructive impact. McCain is a good guy, but he is a liberal, and many of recognize that liberalism brought us most of what is bad about the United States. As for national security, let's face it, it is such a bureaucratic nightmare that it more or less takes care of itself. You're kidding, right? "Take care of itself" is what the previous administration allowed our national security to do. Those days are past. What has Bush really done for national security? That question remains to be answered. Hardly. Bush has done what needed to have been done, but that nobody could have predicted a president would have the balls to have done. First, he acknowledged that the greatest threat we face is from extremist Mid-eastern terrorists. There was great vision in the administration to be able to comprehend what was necessary. By removing Saddam and beginning the insertion of a democracy into the most central region of the Middle East, he has effecively sped up the democratization of Iran -- which will happen in the coming year. Further, he is now engaged in a process that has a reasonable chance of bringing about substantial progress in the Palestinian crisis. Syria's beligerence has been tempered by what they've seen happen in Iraq. And Saudi Arabia's monarchy has publicly acknowledged that the time for change has come (although they've also said it is going to take a long time for them to change internally). Al Qaeda has been tremendously diminished, while the people Afganistan have been freed (they will have a constitution in place by the end of October, and will hold free elections next June). Honestly, for anyone to question Bush's progress simply reflects that person's total blindness or his comprehension of these events is being obscured by political dogma. These are radical changes that it would have been easier for Bush to "let slide". But he has done precisely the right things to protect our national interests. If one is informed about such matters, it is very difficult to legitimately criticize Bush's actions. I believe the '04 elections will prove the American people feel this way.
