Bush said he wants to reform SS too. He's talking about changes that would decrease the SS benefit too, especially for future recipients.

Allowing individuals to invest a portion of their SS tax in a private account, but that will lessen the amount going into the public SS coffers, and ultimately will reduce SS payments. Now some may do good job of investing in their private accounts, others will lose money in managing their own account.

Look, Gore had SS in an airtight lock box. It didn't help him get elected. I think most people know that SS is broken and needs a fix. I don't think that SS is the third rail it used to be. Bush says it must change...but he's careful to say that existing recipients will not be changed...don't want to lose the grey vote!

But change it will...it has to to survive. Lets hear the candidates debate the SS issues today. Dean has endorsed the NGA plan for SS. It calls for no changes to existing recipients too.
