Jury Rules for Applied Materials in Axcelis Lawsuit Wednesday July 2, 4:06 pm ET SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 2, 2003--Applied Materials, Inc. today announced that a jury in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts ruled in favor of Applied Materials, returning a verdict that Applied Materials' SWIFT(TM) ion implantation system does not infringe a patent owned by Axcelis Technologies, Inc. In January 2001, Axcelis had filed suit against Applied Materials asserting that Applied Materials' SWIFT machine infringed Axcelis' U.S. Patent No. 4,667,111.
