I supported Carl all the way on thinking
there would be no war.
Unfortunately, I was relying on logic, a knowledge of history and the APPARENT weakness of the Administration's argument for invasion and occupation then known as liberation and disarmament.

I don't speak for Carl, but I believed that the real story would be portrayed to the American people and that we would be influenced by world opinion. So much for the bunker mentality making the decisions. THe Administration kept saying no decision had been made while committing the war machine with no intention of having any good intentions.

That is why, eventually, this will all unravel. Life (and History) are lived forward and understood in reverse. THis pot's lid is fixing to blow.

As far a killing 5% of the Iraqis to restrain them, this is being played out now. In truth, we have no stomach to kill 5% of the Iraqis and this is why they are not restrained.
As of Monday Rumsfeld was saying " Read my lips no new troops." This morning President Bush said "bring it on" (as long as he doesn't have to be any closer than 30,000 feet above Iraq in Airforce 1.) But now Bremer needs more troops. Shinseki was correct,
RUmsfeld, Wolfawitz, Perle were wrong.

My perception is that Carl talked about a guerilla war and a quagmire. A rose is a rose. Call it whatever Rumsfeld wants to call it. Carl's view of the world was much more accurate that the Administration's.
