Isn't it still debatable about him fathering those children? I remember reading, I can't remember where, that it was a brother or cousin of Jefferson who might have been responsible. But I'm too lazy to look it up. At any rate, there WAS a lot of innuendo about Jefferson and his slaves. That came up in Scandalmonger- and people went around calling each other traitors all the time, too, and there were EVEN accusations that some people liked the French too much (Mr. Franklin, for one). Some things just never change. :-)

During the time I mention there was an assault in the US congress by one representative on another- because tempers were so out of control:
