Yeah, opinions on these financial moves are like assholes. Everybody has one and they all stink. Novak is Mr "repeal the Capital gains tax." Has been playing that violin forever.

Novak sounds like an idiot. There is no other way to describe his contention that an extra quarter point drop in short term interest rates will make or break the economy or Bush's reelection. Greenspan already dropped rates by more than 20 TIMES a quarter point.

I think that Bush and Greenspan will succeed in resuscitating the economy enough to have a strongly falling unemployment rate by 2004. So, unless Iraq really blows up, Bush will win in 2004.

The key in Iraq is to stop listening to Rumsfeld and the Neocons and pour in the extra people and money needed to stabilize the country NOW, well before 2004. Will he be smart enough to do that?
