Actually, I can't think of anyone on the left traversing that path right now. Some evidence Hitchens might be but it's ambiguous. Of course, the Coulter evidence was slightly ambiguous before this book.

Eric Alterman is the closest as a personality but he's pretty contained.

I always found that no matter what Tom Daschle actually said he came across as a puppy dog. He lacks the Newt Gingrich hatchet man style.
