The Fed has said they are fully capable of countering any deflationary spiral. I believe them.

I think they might want to take a close look at late 1920's-early 1930's Germany before pursuing that course too enthusiastically, though.

Let us all hope they know to step on the breaks before we go over the top into some serious inflation...
They're afraid to, I think. They've got a tiger by the ears and dare not let go. They fear if they do that, the economic slump will get worse, so they have no choice but to try to run the printing presses somewhere between depression and inflation.
