My point is that whether or not Presidents play a significant role in economic performance (and they probably don't, but still their role is more than yours or mine)... if the economy is GOOD they claim credit for it.

If it is BAD, they shirk responsibility, and pass the buck.

But for the public - their perception is that the President is Top Dog, and it's his job to see that the trains run on time.

IMO, this particular Bush is looking most like a combination of our last Texas President, LBJ (increases in government size and spending and an ever-ongoing war) and Nixon (secrecy obsessed, an authoritarian-oriented administration, poor economy).
