Not only have most artifacts been recovered, but the latest word is that the bulk of the missing objects were taken home by staff for safekeeping. In other words, it was a bogus story.

30 vases and sculptures from the national museum's exhibition rooms were destroyed. An unknown number of larger objects from the storage rooms as well as thousands of smaller objects have disappeared. The original claim of 170,000 objects lost was incorrect as is the US claim of a few hundred objects lost. As to the many objects returned to the museum, according to John Russell a large number were reproductions.

If you want to check the antique shops in London and Paris you can find 4,000-5,000 year old cuneiform slates for sale.

Bulldozers were used to smash into archaeological sites yet to be excavated in order to find archaeological treasures(after Saddam fell).

As for who is to blame, you're the one who brought that up.

LA Times article on total killed? Nice change of subject but not relevant to the problem of looting. But for your information the estimated total Soviets killed under WWII was around 20,000,000. Or 10% of the population. Some claim more were killed. 1,000,000 dead in Iraq is less than 5%(horrible that it is). Hitler nearly wiped out the European population of Jews and was responsible for 50,000,000 dead so your comparison is factually wrong.

All Noel or anyone else has to do to find current status of the Iraq museum and missing and FOUND pieces, is go to google News, insert 'iraq museum' and search the News site...The Museum is having an important exhibit right now...things that haven't been seen for years....and things that some of the left and the media were "just sure" were stolen... Actually, many of these 'so called looted pieces' were found in sewage water in double sealed containers...
