Choice allows you to pick the criteria you think are important. Just because it allows it, doesn't mean it happens. As to the cleaning products others might not find them inferior. After all they could have different criteria then you as to which is better. Perhaps they don't. There are pretty much basic cleaning problems that affect the vast majority of homes. Is "choice" good? Yes. Motherhood and apple pie. There are diminishing returns with choices. And the competition created by the choice helps keep you from a situation where you are forced to pay a lot of mediocre or worse products or go without. To a point. How much more competition in prices is created by having 12 choices over 8 choices? Draino has three liquid products to clean your drains and one dry product to clean your drain. The dry product [a powder] is a joke. If you follow the directions the surface is wet and it won't go down the screen and you have to dilute it to the point that it's not effective to get it through the screen. I've tried all three liquid products and the two lower priced items don't work well; only the most expensive choice works. I've got four choices and the only way to know how they work is to try all four products to find that you've wasted your money on three of them. And you want to tell me choice it "good"....I believe that Drano knows exactly which of their products work or don't work with their lab testing and they market the products as a way of increasing revenue. jttmab
