Russia attacked Poland at the same time Germany did and they both split Poland. It was that war makes strange bedfellows, not that we liked the USSR. It's true there was a communist movement worldwide and that the Soviets were able to recruit several English "moles" in high places. They even had Guy Burgess in CIA in America spying for them. But the popular movement died out after the war when Stalin's murdering became more widely known. But we were never friends with the USSR.

Not exactly the case. One of the things you will never learn in our high school history books is that in 1918-20 the U.S. Army lost something like 5,000 men fighting the Bolsheviks on Russian soil. We were aligned with the British, French and White Russians in opposing the recently established Bolshevik government in Russia.
