I have a 403b with a very limited set of choices. One is a fixed income fund that invests in SICs (structured investment contracts). It has paid a rock solid rate of around 5% for the last several years.

These instruments were formerly called GICs (guaranteed investment contracts). Some years ago they turned out to be not quite as advertised, and my government employer had to step in and make up for some losses. Does anyone here have any thoughts on the relative safety of SICs?

Bill, the weather has been terrific in Seattle! We're going to San Diego next week so hope the weather there is great, too.

I was just down in Steilacoom but didn't know my way well enough to crane for a look. Saw all the traffic warning signs, though!
