The Apollo Alliance is building a broad coalition within the labor, environmental, business, urban, and faith communities in support of good jobs and energy independence. The Alliance is developing public education campaigns and communications strategies to link allies and build a national constituency for a bold, broad based, and immediate program of public policy.apolloalliance.org I know we don't want to give up our cars, I know that I certainly don't, but perhaps we can fuel our cars with something besides oil derivatives. This is about more than cars though. It is about alternatives and efficiencies. The funding it would take to make this project workable is less than the tax break OUR elected representatives have just given to the richest ONE percent of Americans. Y'know it's curious. I actually benefit from Bush economic policy reducing cap gains etc. And I certainly complained about paying taxes, particularly for programs I did not like, but seeing the the bankrupting of the country being used as a pretext to gut social services make me want to scream to put it back the way it was. I need don't actually see old people forced to live in orange crates like during the great depression to make me understand the need for social programs. And we've already seen plenty with cuts in social programs forcing the mentally ill to do their time in jail rather than being treated at hospitals, Jail seems to be the one looming answer out there for all of those who have lost hope, or health, or fallen on economic hard times. Nations governed by ultra-rich elites doling out work at starvation wages to their vassals often end up in anarchy. Sooner or later those pushed down the latter begin to think "eat the rich," and all hell breaks out. I would hate to think that we, the people, cannot regain the ear of our elected representatives before chaos comes. This requires voices of reason on both sides though. So far, most of what surfaces in the press is the name callers and bullies on every side of the issue. How do you elevate reason when abuse and violence is what sells? Ahhh, Sorry about the soapboxing:) --Coz
