I think the crowds don't mind stammers and mis-speaking as long as you develop adroit methods of coping and soldier on.

Write out your points in advance, but don't write the speech, just your talking points.

Speak clearly and distinctly.

If you screw up, backtrack quickly, make it clear that you're correcting yourself, and move on.

If you aren't born to charisma, don't attempt to fake it. Lowkey will get the job done.

For most of us, brevity is called for, as well.

I have a friend who is now a newspaper columnist, but used to work for the RNC. He appears from time to time on MSNBC. He is very articulate, except that he has a problem with nervous stammering. I thought that it might dissipate as he got older, but he after a number of years, it is still a problem.
