So you want to spoil and destroy the fragile ecosystem of the American desert? Want to destroy what little topsoil and vegetation that is left in the desert? Pave it over, or spread herbicde over thousands of square miles? Don't want to drill in Alaska, but don't mind destroying thousands of square miles of American desert to put up solar-wind plants? And after all that, people with lots of petroleum and natural gas, could still probably produce Hydrogen for a lot less money, than those without large gas and oil reserves. And you still haven't addressed the fact that Cal Tech, has found that hydrogen will damage the ozone layer. It may be better, but hydrogen is not a perfect fuel.

re:" The best clean plan so far is a solar-wind combo desert plant. Out in our vast desert areas there's plenty of room for that."
