The time range you have chosen includes one of the greatest investment manias in history. I don't think that any conclusions drawn from that data have general application or can validly be used to support long term hypotheses. You have much company. Most pundits have decided to make long term hypotheses about technology, semis, and semi-equips from recent data. In many cases, the data seem to reveal fundamental changes. I believe that this collective behavior stems from the fact that it is easier to analyze numbers than to analyze mechanisms and processes. Unfortunately, easier usually isn't better. In the current situation it is much worse.
