Was this before or after he got an advance payment from a book publisher?

Many KGB officials have testified that Hiss was not a spy. Hiss has not been proven a spy. And Coulter flat out lied when she said that the Venona files proved his guilt. If anything, Venona provided compelling evidence that Hiss was innocent.
