I can tell you that the briefing I received last month at the Special Forces Convention on that subject showed terrific results. The students off the street receive much extra training at several points in the process and it is paying off in graduates. AND no standards were reduced.

It takes 21-24 months to train a guy to the point that he can be effrective on A Team.

It takes another 8-10 years of training and experience before he is truly a master of the art.

Edwards blocks GIs' loan break
washingtontimes.com

Sen. John Edwards, North Carolina Democrat, is single-handedly blocking Senate action on legislation all but unanimously supported by the House to ease the student-loan burden for soldiers fighting overseas.

In April, the House voted 421-1 to pass the HEROES Act, which essentially would defer student loans for soldiers called into action. The only dissenting vote was cast accidentally by one of the bill's sponsors.
