I have felt from the start that Lieberman didn't have a chance. It's the "Nixon in China" syndrome. The first elected Jewish President will be a Republican.

I don't feel that operates here. The only people I've heard who are really worried about Lieberman's religion are other Jews. At a time when anti-Semitism has reached fever pitch across much of the Muslim world (& Europe too for that matter), do we really need an Orthodox Jewish President? It may not be nice to think this way, but it's pragmatic. Also, as the article points out, Bush has been extremely strong for Israel, so it's natural for him to get Jewish support. That and the fact that the odds of his winning reelection seem high.
